Analysis of seed production traits in interspecific hybrids between Trifolium repens (white clover) and Trifolium uniflorum
Read article at Massey Research Online:
White clover is an important component of New Zealand鈥檚 pastoral and herbage seed industries, but it is very susceptible to drought. To improve drought tolerance and root traits, interspecific hybrids were made between white clover and its wild relative聽T. uniflorum. The hybrids showed poor seed production. Mr. Naeem analysed this problem and improved seed production of the hybrids by plant breeding and selection. Satisfactory seed production was achieved and was expected to facilitate wider cultivation and seed export of this valuable hybrid plant material
