Thesis Title
Meeting the emotional needs of children with challenging behaviour and developmental disabilities

Read article at Massey Research Online:

Mrs Howard explored the use of the four component model (a behavioural and emotional intervention) to reduce challenging and enhance positive behaviours in children with developmental disabilities. Four treatment case studies involving young people aged between 5 and 15 and their families were conducted over the period of a year. Although the results were mixed, they confirmed the importance of combining both behavioural and emotional components in treatment, with clinical benefits identified through multiple sources of data for each child. These results are promising for expanding the application of positive behavioural interventions; however, further research is required to confirm the precise role of emotional development when addressing challenging behaviour in young people with severe disabilities.聽
