The purpose of education is to prepare learners for the world they are going to live in. Actively supporting learners develop the capabilities needed to engage productively with the difficult and challenging problems that are part of today鈥檚 world is integral. The Effective Lifelong Learning Inventory (ELLI) is a programme designed to assist in the development and measurement of learning dispositions: strategic awareness, changing and learning, meaning making, creativity, critical curiosity, learning relationships and resilience. Ms Hyett used a case study approach to explore a trial using ELLI within a New Zealand secondary school. Using Bishop鈥檚 (2008) GPILSEO framework (Goals, Pedagogy, Institutions, Leadership, Structures, Evidence, Ownership), she analysed the process involved in trialling the tool. She found that the introduction of the tool actively supported the developing learning culture of the students and staff, concluding that all elements of Bishop鈥檚 framework must be in place to sustain change.
