Shafiq's PhD thesis “Swarms, Clustering, and Recommender Systems” was awarded the Department’s Best Ph.D. thesis award for 2012-2013, focusing on data mining, recommender systems, and anomalies detection in web-based systems.

Dr Shafiq's current research areas include detecting Risks in Recommender systems, security of recommender systems, shilling and fraud detection in recommender systems, data mining, web usage mining, and big data.  He has published widely in international conferences and journals. He has also been on the program committee of highly ranked conferences, and runs workshop in a series that he has established in conjunction with the Pacific-Asia Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (PAKDD), an A-ranked conference.

 Dr Shafiq Alam is a Senior Lecturer in Managment and Information at 黑料网. He has obtained his PhD in Data analytics  from University of Auckland ( UOA) , New Zealand. Dr Shafiq's research areas focuses on data mining and analytics, with a particular focus on biologically inspired techniques for data mining.
