Dr Daniel Paes BSc, MSc, PhD, CIRTL Associate
Senior Lecturer in Digital Built Environment
Doctoral Co-Supervisor School of Built EnvironmentDaniel’s research is at the intersection of basic and applied science and is centered on visual perception, presence, and learning in Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR) environments in architectural design, construction, and workforce training applications, identifying opportunities for revolutions in effectiveness assessment methods and virtual experiences in the field. Other research interests include Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), Augmented Reality (AR), Building Information Modeling (BIM), Research Methods in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Experimental Design, User Experience and User Interface (UX/UI), Cognitive Psychology, Design Process, and Construction Management. Moreover, Daniel has five years of industry experience as Lead Designer, having led the development of eighty-five BIM-based architectural designs and monitored sixteen construction projects.
Dr. Daniel Paes holds a B.Sc. degree (Hons) in Architecture and Urbanism and an M.Sc. degree in Construction Management (thesis-track) from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil (9th in Latin America - THE ranking), as well as a Ph.D. degree in Building Construction with a minor concentration in Cognitive Psychology from the Georgia Institute of Technology, United States (10th globally - THE ranking, engineering & tech).
